アメリカバーモント州エセックス高校とのSTEMプロジェクト開始
2021年5月27日 12時29分今年度から１年生（全７クラス）の自然科学基礎（ＳＳＨ学校設定科目）の時間を使って、アメリカバーモント州のエセックス高校とのSTEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) 共同プロジェクト学習を実施しています。今年度はじめのプロジェクトとしては、学校周辺の樹木を数週間定点観測して、その変化を見るフェノロジー（生物季節学）分野です。6月初めには観察結果をスライドにまとめ、共通点や相違点について共有する予定にしています。
また、このプロジェクトのスタートにあたって、英語の授業と連携しながら、お互いのことをよく知るためのビデオレターの交換を進めています。西高の生徒たちは、エセックス高校の生徒に日常生活のこと質問をしたり、反対にアメリカの生徒の昼食事情やコロナ禍での様子を教えてもらったりしていました。
Tori Nishi has just started a joint STEM project with Essex High School in Vermont, U.S.A. This is specially designed basic natural science course for the first grade students. Students are starting with phenology, in which they will observe trees on the school grounds for several weeks. They will give presentations on the result of their observation in early June. In addition, students have also begun a video message exchange in which they talk about their daily school life and experiences during the pandemic.
