鳥取県とウェストモアランド県との姉妹都市提携での交流が進む中、岩美高等学校とウエストモーランド県Little London High Schoolが姉妹校提携を締結することになり、令和7年2月19日（木）に両校校長の間で姉妹校提携締結が行われました。

本校の辻中孝彦校長が令和7年2月19日（木）ジャマイカ、ウェストモアランド県にあるLittle London High School（リトルロンドン高校）を訪れ、Gangield Tomer校長先生と会談を行い岩美高等学校（鳥取県）とLittle London High School(ウエストモーランド県)との姉妹校提携を締結し、文化、教育、芸術、スポーツなどの様々な分野において教員、生徒同士の文化交　流活動を推進し、相互理解を深め友好関係を発展させていくことで合意しました。

岩美高校は2007年からジャマイカとの交流を進めてきており、本校吹奏楽部が２０２２年ジャマイカ独立60周年記念式典での記念演奏、２０２３年日本・ジャマイカ友好提携60周年記念式典での記念演奏を行い、また、２０２２年からLittle London High School（リトルロンドン高校）英語オンライン交流を行い、交流を深めてきました。

今回の姉妹校提携締結は、ジャマイカ国内の高校が海外の高校と姉妹校提携を結ぶのは今回が初めてということで、ジャマイカ国内でも全国ニュースとして紹介されました。

今後、岩美高校とLittle London High School（リトルロンドン高校）との交流だけでなく、鳥取県とウェストモアランド県との交流ならびにJ-J partnership(Jamaica-Japan partnership：ジャマイカと日本のパートナーシップ)がますます発展していくことが期待されます。

Japan's Iwami High, Jamaica's Little London High sign sister school partnership

On February 19, 2025 became a memorial day for both Tottori Prefecture, in Japan, and Westmoreland in Jamaica. Tottori municipal government announced in public that Iwami High School has signed a sister school relationship with Little London High School, which is located in Westmoreland in Jamaica.

This initiative, which was signed on February 19, 2025, marks the 10 th anniversary of the memorandum of understanding(MoU) signed in 2015 for the twinning of Tottori Prefecture with the parish of Westmoreland. Last year, Japan and Jamica marked 60 th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

 The historic signing ceremony took place at Little London High School on February 19. Having signed a sister school initiative with Jamaica's Little London High School, Iwami High School is now looking forward to experiencing that benefits they will share.

Garfield James, the principal of Little London High School, said he was thrilled with the initiative, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in education, which he believes will be highly beneficial to his students, noting that the mutual benefits have the potential to last a lifetime.

Takahiko Tsujinaka, principal of Iwami High School, said " Strengthening the tie between Westmoreland and Tottori through education is a brilliant way to foster mutual understanding and cultural exchange, highlighting the longstanding relations between regions will emphasize the importances of establishing this partnership."

　1月17日（金）本校の辻中孝彦校長先生がジャマイカ大使館を訪問し、ショナ・ケイ・リチャーズ全権駐日大使と2時間にわたり英語のみの対談をしました。

2007年から続く、ジャマイカと岩美高校との交流について、今後もさらに交流を深めていくことを確認しました。

　リチャーズ大使は、ジャマイカ独立60周年記念式典、ジャマイカ・日本友好提携締結60周年記念式典での岩美高校吹奏楽部の演奏にとても感動した。今後は吹奏楽部のみならず岩美高校とジャマイカの高校との学校間交流が進むことを期待している。このような教育的、文化的な交流ができれば、鳥取県とウエストモーランド州との交流がさらに深まるだけでなく、日本とジャマイカとのJ-J partnership（Japan-Jamaica partnership）もより発展していくと思うと述べられました。

　辻中校長は、岩美高校とジャマイカの高校との学校間交流を是非実現したいとの意欲をリチャーズ大使に伝えました。

１月５日に東京体育館で開幕した、第７７回全日本高校選手権（春高バレー）の様子が日本海新聞に掲載されました。
